Mat Pilates
Mat Pilates is the foundation of the Pilates method, developed by Joseph Pilates as a system of controlled, intentional movement designed to strengthen the body from the inside out.
Working primarily with your own body weight, Mat Pilates focuses on developing deep core stability, balanced muscle strength, and efficient movement patterns. The emphasis is not on how many repetitions you complete, but on how well you move, with precision, control, and awareness.
Classes are built around key principles such as breath, alignment, concentration, and flow. You’ll learn how to properly engage the deep stabilising muscles of the abdomen, back, and pelvis, supporting the spine and improving overall posture. Over time, this translates into better movement in daily life, from how you sit and stand, to how you bend, lift, and move through the world.
Small props such as resistance bands, balls, and light weights may be used to add challenge or support, but the focus remains on mastering your own body. Mat Pilates is accessible to a wide range of abilities, while still offering enough depth and progression to continue challenging you as you grow stronger.
