FIND YOUR LEVEL

PHILOSOPHY

Every body is different, and everyone has a different starting point. Whether you're stepping onto a reformer for the very first time or you've been practising for years and want to go deeper — there's a class at Selah that's right for where you are right now.

The Pilates method works best when the foundations are learned properly first. Joseph Pilates designed his method as a progressive system — each exercise building on the one before it, each principle layering onto the next, each week of practice creating the capacity for what comes after. When you learn it that way, from the ground up and in the right order, the results are different. Not just in how your body looks or performs, but in how it feels and functions day to day.

That's why we offer multiple entry points and a clear pathway through our classes. So that wherever you're starting from, you're building on something solid.

Pilates Exercise Ring

Foundation

From time to time we run the Selah Pilates Foundations Course — a 6-week small-group programme for complete beginners and those returning to Pilates after a break. With a maximum of 4 people per class, you'll be taught the original Pilates method properly — the foundational exercises, the 6 principles, how to use the Reformer and Tower safely, and the reasoning behind every movement.

We also run one-off Beginner Workshops periodically — a shorter introduction to the method and equipment.

Both the Foundations Course and Beginner Workshops run at different times throughout the year. Check our Courses page for what's coming up next, or get in touch, and we'll let you know when the next one is scheduled.

Beginner Level 1

If you'd like to jump straight into a group class, our Beginner and Level 1 classes are designed for people who are new to Pilates or new to our studio. Exercises are introduced at a steady pace with clear instruction, alignment cues and individual corrections throughout.

These classes are small — which means your instructor can see what's happening in your body and give you real guidance, not just general cues to the room.

MULTI-LEVEL
& ALL LEVEL CLASSES

Once you've built a solid foundation — whether through a course, private sessions or regular Beginner classes — Multi-Level and All Level classes are your natural next step.

These classes are designed to work across a range of experience levels in the same room. Your instructor offers modifications to make exercises more accessible when needed and progressions to make them more challenging when you're ready.

Even our most experienced clients include Multi-Level and All Level classes in their regular practice — because small class sizes and experienced instructors mean the work is always adapted to what your body needs on any given day. There is always more depth to find.

LEVEL 2 CLASSES

Level 2 classes are for clients who have been practising regularly, feel confident on the apparatus and are ready to progress. These classes involve more complex sequences, faster transitions and a higher demand on strength, stability and coordination.

Progression to Level 2 is something we guide you through — we'll let you know when you're ready. If you think you might be there, have a conversation with your instructor or get in touch and we'll talk it through.

LEVEL 3 CLASSES

Level 3 classes are for clients with a strong, established Pilates practice who are ready to explore more advanced techniques and demanding sequences. The work at this level assumes a thorough understanding of the method and consistently high-quality movement.
